I spend almost 30% of my Interent time on a mobile device, with a screen size of 2.1 inch 320×320, a band-width of 4.xk/s on a GPRS, limited CPU resources, and the a not so clever browser call WebPro on my Palm, many website are really not accessible…
Email was OK, with quite some work of build my own mail server for a better centralized email solution.
Browsing was not such a good experience (Google Mobile do help a lot, but not all sites are fully supported), I end up with RSS reading most of the time, or develop CGIs/PHP to “filter/slim” those FAT HTMLs to mobile friendly layout…of coz, the example of PUMB mobile and HK3Zone mobile I developed earlier for dicussion forums..
Non-accessible open services
In many cases, it really disappointed us…
Example, I would like to check my account balance by online banking on my mobile, opps, sorry, NONE of the bank in HK works with a Palm smartphone. (don’t think PPC works either….)
Ok, how about betting on the lotteries for a little bit of fun on the road? (legally I mean, from the Hong Kong Royal Jockey Club)
Nope, sorry man, please find the nearest betting station, queue up and WAIT, as you need MS IE + Java enable to be able to “use” their online betting system, or the next option is purchase their “so call” mobile betting device (no please, not YET ANOTHER device in my bag, and that thing look UGLY)…..
How about checking the current traffic condition on my smartphone before I get into a traffic jam on the road?
Sorry either, MS IE only,
I think thats so stupid….Thats the time we need it most! ON THE ROAD!
They can’t expect us getting our notebook out and boot it up isn’t it?
HK Traffic Department – Realtime Traffic Condition.
CGI Slimed version – Realtime Traffic Condition.
Think these services should be real good to use on mobile, but too bad, we just can’t enjoy them….
Or do we need IE and JavaVM on our smartphone?

New iPod Shuffle – Ar… thats small…
I remember when the first iPod Shuffle was released back in 2004, I stay clam enough to gave it a pass… then the nano, pass…. of coz the iPod Video, PASS!!!!
Looking at this new iPod shuffle:
Very good form factor, 1.62 inches x 1.07 inches , good looking as usual (if you like apple, it looks good!), 1GB storage, 12hour playback…. o of coz, at US$79 (appox HK$ 640)
I think I would give this a pass too…
iTune was never my cup of tea, I just don’t buy the idea of needing a software for uploading songs to an MP3 palyer, they are data only anyway…
Just my 2cents, apple fans, don’t kill me for not supporting your choice…

Apple officalls – iPod Shuffle Tech Specs
Hum………updates..
Long story short….didn’t have time for ANYTHING……….
As a Cantonese Slang says: “Free to die, too busy to get sick tho.” (it means bl**dy busy)
Well…Life goes on tho….
The little “Calendar View” on the right was one of the feature I would really love to see in my the weblog, some dirty code was done back in 2004, and finally….
Recently I am in lots of Flash programming, so spend a hour or two to make old code to work..
There are still room to improve of coz , and a few more feature I would like to insert to the Calendar View (Like using flashcookie to store previous Month in the calendar, getting it more interactive with the url, so that calendar auto goto the month when user viewing older post, etc etc), but by now, as far as it works..
Tell me what do you think!
Trackbacks, to be or not to be?
As you may already see, I am back for some programming on the weblog.
Comment system has been developed, I try my best to keep it simple so I gave authentication like radom picture code a pass, anyway I would like to audit whats in the comment before it is publish anyway, please feel free to do give it a try.
Back to Trackbacks, I think it is such a great idea of letting Bloggers to actually “tell” the original poster about their link or referral, but it also come up to my attention:
“Some individuals or companies have abused the TrackBack feature to insert spam links on some blogs (see sping). This is similar to comment spam but avoids some of the safeguards designed to stop the latter practice. As a result, TrackBack spam filters similar to those implemented against comment spam now exist in many weblog publishing systems. Many blogs have stopped using trackbacks because dealing with spam became too burdensome.”
Quote from WiKi of Trackbacks
I think technically Trackbacks isn’t very hard to develope for Theo’s weblog, but with the above issue I am quite concern about it…
To be? Or not to be?
HK3Zone Mobile Edition
Requested by mate PL, I have spend a few hours on getting my CGI code of MobileEdition for Discuz to HK3Zone.
Little work was needed as most of the code has been developed for Discuz already, only a few Search and Replace and Tweak due to different “Theme” used in the forum.
HK3Zone is a local Discussion Forum for friends powered by Discuz.
Currently you can visit the HK3zone(ME) at:
http://hk3zone.rinnovative.com
So now, sit back, relax, and enjoy HK3Zone on the road!
Didn’t do much programming to the Weblog for long….
Hum, I would really love to have more function l think….
Example:
Trackback , Comments, more Mobile friendly, themes, better admin system, email/SMS/MMS to Weblog….etc etc….
Think I should spend sometime on him…

i-Tech Virtual Laser Keyboard
I just love keyboards!
Yet another toy!
The version I got on hand is the Serial version, which works with O2 XDAs, some iPAQs, PalmOS5 devices with Serial portand Windows XP.(Bluetooth version exist)
To be honest, the Virtual Laser Keyboard is far from usable, unstable drivers, very bad hand feeling, have to work in very flat and non-reflection area, extremely overpriced! (US$149)…..etc etc etc (chomp 3000 words of CONS)
But I think it is such a cool device to have as a gadget collection, really something looks like out of the movie by an Agent!!
Anyway, if you are still interested for one, head off http://www.virtual-laser-keyboard.com/ to have a look! (My suggestion is: Good to have a look! look is enough!)
