On the last day of June 2007, I went to Lantau island for a few days off in the holiday, thinks sometimes you just have to “unplug” from the busy city life in HK..
Day 1
Weather wasn’t very good on the 30, raining almost half of the day, and I have to work in the morning anyway, so we start the trip on appox 4~5:00pm..
First thing we did after settle down in the little Inn, of coz dinnering! eatting is very important for an holiday isn’t it?
We went to a restaurant call “Tat Chai Kee”, food were just great!
南乳蓮藕炒鹹肉 (Fried Lotus root with pork, in “Nam Yu” Source)
大蝦炒蛋 (Fried large shrimp with egg)
This is a must try in the restaurant, Shrimp are large and fresh and tasty, the egg is just cooked in correct timing, not too long, not too short, great value and taste at HK$48!
椒鹽瀨尿蝦 (Fried Mantis Shrimp with salt and pepper)
The weakest Link……not very fresh, and over-salted….and most expensive….$HK60, well………
白飯 (Steam Rice)
As a Chinese, rice is very important for a meal! hehe..
嘉士伯瓶裝 (Carlsberg Beer)
Iced Carlsberg, possibly the best beer in the world!!!!!!!!!

Day 2
On the second day, weather turns great!
We spend the early afternoon walking on main street of Mui Woo, and find a little cafe selling nice Vietnam style noodles and food!
Salad in Vietnamese style, the Vegetable are fresh, and the mix is good, nothing better than salad in Summer!
Rice Noodle and Pork Chop in Vietnam style, remember I used to order this all the time when I was back in New Zealand…. good old days….
So we went to the beach for some sunshine, catching little fish and crabs, and spend the afternoon….(Sorry no photos….. I really don’t enjoy sand in my Contax….)
We have BBQ at night for dinner, it was fun!!!
BBQ Fresh mushrooms, hum, mushrooms…………..(No not THOSE mushrooms, hehehe, they do not gives you magic!!!)
utp style bake pack, it is actually what I used to made by oven when I was in NZ, remeber master utp and brother utp loves it..
Capsicums in Red, Yellow and Green wrap with Chicken wings (used to do chicken filet, easiler to cook) in Aluminium foil, little bit salt and pepper, all the great taste trapped inside the wrap, chicken souce and juice from capsicums mixed, especially when you open the wrap up, the smell of it is just great!
Day 3
The last day of holiday, we slept a little bit more, headed for a simple lunch.. Forget about what I had, it was just something to feed you up…but at least, a cup of iced coffee and a place to check my email..
Too bad no supoprt of HSPDA in Mui Woo area…
OQO-ing with wireless network everywhere is just great.
We went to the big Buddha and 昂平360
(Ngong Ping 360), as honestly I have never been there, and we would also like to show some support to shops in the Ngong Ping 360 due to the BS Skyrail Saga.

Funny thing happens, I was known to be “Rainny Kind” since I was small, that is, no matter where and when I went pinic, it RAINS! HEAVILY!
I was having a joke with master utp about our trip, it wasn’t that bad isn’t it? at least weather is OK this time, then here it comes, within 3 minutes, the sky turns black, fog from the hill are blown to our feet. then we have a big big shower for 45 mins…..
Ok, I have heard you, yeah I got your lesson! Mr. Sky….. hehe

Then we took bus from the Ngong Ping 360 back to Tung Chun, where we ended our holiday!
It was a nice holiday, I have my time of silent I needed, food was great, it was just fun!

Ok, This is my mobile gear for now….
From the left top:
OQO model 02, Samsung SGH-i600, Sony VGP-BRM1…
On the road:
I use my OQO02 mainly on the trip to/off work, or I am at a local cafe with WiFi enable, with the HSDPA on the i600, I can easily stays online while on the move, the VGP-BRM1 normally connects to the i600 for MP3 listening (noise filtering?) on public transport…
At home:
OQO02 mainly serve my surfing, emailing, RSS reading and information clipping when I am not in-front of the computer system, and the i600 serve my mobile Video Player streaming XVID movies I recorded by my server…(who has the time to copy those avi back on to the card? not me!), and VGP-BRM1 serves a very good headset too when my eyes and hands are on the OQO, and still chatting on the phone…

Repairing a corrupted WMI service in Windows XP..
During installation of needed software and developing tools on the OQO Model 02, system crashed after a Windows update reboot. (EventLog report unable to load profiles and registry related data after the crash, but another reboot seems cure the problem..)
But after the crash, I was not able to use WIFI, the OQO Manager and OQO Service (which control the extra function of the OQO keyboards, touchscreen etc) crash everytime I reboot.
After a looking around, I found that in the propreties panel of my network devices, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service is shown damaged or corrupted for some reason (nothing report on the EventLog tho), many application and services would not work without the WMI service.
Googling a bit gave me a solution:
First, stop the WMI service in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services.
Then goto the window system32 directory, which in my case:
c:windowssystem32
Look for directory under system32, wbem.
Rename ALL files under wbem directory to something else, example, backups…
Restart the WMI service under Services.
After the restart, everything works back like normal..

This is a handy tools I used very often lately, all it does is split the FLV files into Video and Audio files (FLV Stream in AVI and Audio in MP3.)
Very handy when you want the audio data only, drag and drop and done done.

Estimated 3 Days…. New gadgets comming.. by another source
On my earlier post Estimated 5 Days…. New gadgets coming.. I mention I was ordering my toy of the year and it turns out to be great disappointment…
The saga was:
I was ordering this little baby from a company call expXXsys HK an international electronics and gadgets importer (you know that one), I called them when I place my order to confirm that I would like to pay by my credit card when the item arrive, and was told no problemo by staff…
I was so looking forward for the shipping day, which was stated on their system as 13 June 2007, I almost check the page every single day, and called a few times to make sure the order goes well..
On 9 of June, I notice the shipping date stays at “Estimated 5 days”, so I called them again on 11 (they don’t work on Sat), and the conversation is as the following:
utp: Hi, my order number is XXXXXXXX, and I notice that the estimated shipping date for my order has stopped counting, was there a delay?
expXXsys: ar……….let me check…….(phone on hold for 5 mins) sorry to tell you that we don’t seems to be able to ship your order…
utp: What??? Why is that?
expXXsys: O…………ar………..we actually do not have this item in stock…
utp: Why? I did my order 2~3 weeks ago and I called in a few times and was told it is shipping this week…
expXXsys: Ar…….actually we don’t have this item in stock….and…..ar………..see all stock that we are shipping right now was fully paid backorder from January…and you haven’t pay yet! (o yeah, my fault?)
utp: I called in a few times about my order, and I already mention a few times I would like to pay by my credit card when the item arrives, and never was told there is any problem, so how can this be??? (Deeply disappointed)
expXXsys: Well………ar…..maybe the staff wasn’t so clear about your case then…
utp: Well……….I think that is so disappointed, your staff should notice the issue……… Anyway, ok thats fine, I understand there is nothing much I can ask for if you do not have it in stock now, but I still would like to backorder, so what lead time of shipping date am I looking at?
expXXsys: Hum………ar…………..we have no idea…… (chomped repeating the above “January full paid backorder” statement..) If you would like to backorder now, you can pay the item and we put you in the queue of backorders
utp: That just doesn’t make sense, if your company already know you are now shipping only January backorder, whats the point of having a sign of “Estimated 5 days” on the order and my order tracking page?? See I have been waiting 3 weeks to be told you don’t really have it in stock, and even no expected shipping time?
expXXsys: o, yeah, we cannot give you a firm shipping date even you order, see it all depends on do we get stock from the manufactures …
utp: so whats the point of backorder? to be honest I did a little bit of googling before I made the order, the comment on ordering from your company was not so positive, but I cannot imagine it can go this bad….
expXXsys: ………………….. well so do you still want the order?
utp: (haha) well, if people made their full paid backorder on January and get their item at June (I wonder who did, would you??) does it means I get my order in Dec? no thanks, I think you can cancel the order….
expXXsys: ar………well ok then…………..
utp: ………………..
Phone cuts off…..
3 weeks wasted, and not so (or so not?) “professional” service was given….well….
I promise I am NOT GOING TO ORDER from this company anymore!
Anyway, I made my order from another company, and they do FedEx to my home in 3 days from US…that was another funny story, but at least, I made my order, with almost same price, and way better service!
