Second Life Hit By Massive In-Game Worm

I found this very interesting….

Quote from Slashdot:
An anonymous reader writes,

“At 2:46 CST today, the game Second Life was hit by a massive attack by a rogue programmer. Spinning gold rings began to appear in the air and on the ground, and as users interacted with them they began to chase and replicate. Apparently, most people are willing to touch an object they’ve never seen before and this invoked a worm script that was designed to multiply and spread across the 2,700+ servers run by Linden Labs in California, the game’s owner. Many of the six hundred thousand active users experienced serious lag and lost connectivity to the servers, making it one of the largest known denial-of-service attacks in an online game. Linden Labs had to invoke martial law and lock out all logins by users except their staff as they began the task of cleaning the servers of what they began to term ‘the grey goo.'”

Comments in the SL blog entry indicate that Linden Labs had already deployed a “grey goo fence” before this worm struck, but someone found a hole in it.

Hum…….what a Matrix feel……..do we next have bot over-controlling the system?

Spams……everywhere……

I currently notice the numbers of spams increases by at least 100%, especially from my yahoo email account..

These spams consider different to “traditional” spam, instead of plain text like “Viagra”, “Penis”, “Fake Rolex”, they first comes with a radom generated paragraph of meaningless text, then they embedded an image (Even comes with pattern overlay to hide from OCR like scanning), which of coz, containing their ads.

Most current spam filter only filter the text content, and these spams got in without notice….

Just saw a news over NewScientist about spams.

Honest, I really don’t understand:
1/: Does anyone really use/buy their service because of the spam? I personally would first ban their product/service.
2/: Why are we the one that have to spend the time filtering these junk? they should be one to stop them! I personally support “opt-in” idea on email ads, I do thinks a big big fine would warn and stop these ppl from doing it.

Treo680 delay? due to?

Just read news over PalmInfocenter:
Rumor: CrunchGear is reporting a rumor this morning that makes the claim that the Treo 680 has been delayed due to a manufacturing error. Their reliable source states:

Apparently 144,000 Treo 680s were shipped out and had to be sent back because some genius forgot to connect the internal microphones.

The Treo 680 is being produced by Inventec. The 680 is the first device they have been contracted to manufacture for Palm.

Hum……..Thats a good mistake, that is just clever!
Wonder who did the QC/QA? I think he/she deserve to get a BIG thumb up AFTER recieving His/Her big envelope.

Little bit news for Palm, the In and Outs…

Little bit news in the pass week:

The New Commer

A company name Janam Technologies has join the PalmOS family, their device are design aimmed application-specific mobile computers, think it should be the first rugged, barcode-scanning Palm device running on Palm OS version 5+ (OS5.4.9).

Someone came, someone gone

While Janam Technologies joins, Symbol has made decision they will conclude their PalmOS base devices, and final batch shall be ship in January 2007, Quote from the PalmInfocenter that: “They(Symbol) claim the decision to terminate Palm OS device production was reached not only due to economic factors but Access’ lack of interest in the Garnet OS in the company’s long-term plans”.

Well……alhtough the Symbol SPT-1550 and SPT-1800 is not commonly seen (I have a SPT-1550, and still sees SPT-1800 around in some shops), it is still sad to see yet one another company deciced to quit the scene…

More bad news?

The great (or the only?) company with PalmOS base, buildin GPS manufacturer Garmin has announced to discontinue three iQue models in their line, 2 PalmOS base devices the 3600 and 3200 were marked discontinue…and the 3600a and 3000 is still alive.

Some info suggest that the discontinue may due to the EOL (End Of Life) for the older Freescale’s MX CPU used on these 2 devices, while the newer models 3600a and 3000 is still alive as they were designed to use newer CPUs.

With the current “In and Out”, think we should do an update list of what is left on the PalmOSes orphanage….

Cheer up mate!

Last week I got a call from mate B, he didn’t sound well, was worry about him over the weekend…

We have dinner tonight, and he told me the bad news, I felt so sorry to hear that….

I don’t know what to say, but mate B, cheer up! Just wanna let u know mates like us are around!

Loading up……

Things loaded up in a not so quite expected way…
But well……
The Oracle told us: “We are all here to do what we are all here to do” isn’t it?

Work + Work + Work + Work + Work + Work/2 + Family/2 + Sleep = Work * 5 + Wo + Fam + Sleep??

Work is MySQL + PHP + JavaScript + XML + HTML ……..

Hobby is Perl + XML + Shell + JAVA + HTML + C ……

Tired…. a little bit out of control, but I try enjoy them (or try to make a little bit of fun out of them?)…

Brother L and M are comming back next week, really looking forward to see them, I think the last time we sat down to have a family dinner was a few years back… (Door’s open, bed’s made. Welcome home….)

Lawsuit == Business

(Screen shot from Engadget RSS, click to enlarge)

I think is nothing new for news about some opportunist/company acting as a so call “legal bully”, where they think suing some one/some other companies makes more and easiler money than doing business….

But I really love the picture Engadget select for the story, extactly what I felt, extactly what I think!!! Gave me a big laugh for at least 60 seconds!!!

Great pic there Engadget!!! thanks!!! credits for the poster Cyrus Farivar!!!!!
